Ko Mi-Nyeo & Ko Mi-Nam are twin brother and sister. They grew up in an orphanage and never knew their parents. Ko Mi-Nam has become a member of popular boy band "A.N.JELL" but was seriously injured and sent to America to recover. Ma Hoon-Lee pleads to Ko Mi-Nyeo to impersonate her brother until he recovers. For her brother's sake, Ko Mi-Nyeo reluctantly agrees to play her brother.
A.N.JELL band member Kang Shin-Woo first discovers Ko Mi-Nyeo's secret, but he keeps it to himself and later develops feelings for her. Also, A.N.JELL's singer/songwriter/vocalist Hwang Tae-Kyeong discovers Ko Mi-Nyeo's secret. At first Hwang Tae-Kyeong tries to kick Ko Mi-Nyeo out of the band, but he becomes sympathetic to her plight when he discovers that she hoped to find her mother by appearing on television with the band.
Ko Mi-Nyeo's secret is then discovered by pop singer Yu Hee-Yi by chance. When the media falsely reports that Yu Hee-Yi and A.N.JELL band member Hwang Tae-Kyeong are dating she uses Ko Mi-Nyeo's secret to make Hwang Tae-Kyeong pretend they are dating in front of the press.
REVIEW -
This was the first Korean drama I've watched and one of my favourite dramas to date. As someone who had minimal exposure to the culture and aspects of Asian life-styles watching this drama was a learning experience as well as an enjoyment. As a young high school student, I noticed a classmate watching the drama on her laptop and asked her for a copy.
As my first Korean drama that I've watched, I would highly recommend the drama to anyone. One of my favourite types of dramas are where an individual disguises themselves with the opposite gender. It is interesting to see how they are portrayed by the actors and the creativeness behind the story line of the drama. There are so many mixed feelings when watching this from laughing, jaw dropping, sad and happy moments throughout. Of course, I cried but as you'll read in my other Korean drama reviews - I cry often when watching shows whether the ending isn't how I had imagined, or happy, or the other reality of being sad that one of the characters doesn't have a happy ending like I'd hoped they would.
As usual, there are many different love stories throughout the drama which provides mixed feelings throughout watching the series. From the happy to sad moments, each episode kept you wanting to watch more and become more attached to the characters. The actors have accurately portrayed there characters and personalities. Especially Hwang Tae-Kyeong that has a soft-side to his sharp and possibly labeling as an arrogant character. The other band members all have their quirky characteristics which somehow you feel as you can relate to when watching it. Also, the songs of the band are extremely catchy and I found myself singing along even when this was my first time watching and learning about Korea including the language.
Without spoiling the drama, I was surprised by the ending of drama as the story kept you wanting more at the end of each episode however the ending was just left open ended. By this, I felt that the dramas end could allow individuals to pick what the characters would do after the movie.
Overall, I enjoyed watching the drama and believe it is an easy watch with a plot that can be followed along and not confuse viewers - although this may be considered as there is the twins which are undercover. As my first drama, this will always have a special place in my heart that I've enjoyed watching. I have even purchased the toy character of the pig-rabbit from the drama.
